Organized by the HRC Chicago Steering Committee and the Chicago Coalition
On Saturday (6/21) at Noon, the streets of Chicago will rise in solidarity with trans and gender nonconforming youth across the nation, and especially those in Tennessee. The Supreme Court's recent 6-3 decision, allowing Tennessee's discriminatory ban on access to gender-affirming care for youth, is a devastating blow to human rights and the well-being of a vulnerable population.
This is not just a protest; it's a powerful declaration that access to life-saving healthcare is a fundamental right, not a privilege to be denied. We will stand united to show the country that trans youth deserve to thrive, to receive the care they need, and to live free from discrimination.
Why Your Presence Matters:
Show Solidarity: Stand with trans youth, their families, and allies who are fighting for their right to essential healthcare.
Demand Justice: Send a clear message to the Supreme Court and legislative bodies that discriminatory bans on healthcare will not be tolerated.
Amplify Voices: Help raise awareness about the critical importance of gender-affirming care and its positive impact on mental and physical health.
Build Community: Connect with fellow advocates and strengthen our collective power to fight for LGBTQ+ equality.
Let's make our voices heard loud and clear from Chicago: Healthcare is a human right. No bans, no surrender!
What: Protest and Rally in Solidarity with Trans Youth When: Saturday at Noon Where: Federal Plaza Bring: Signs, water, comfortable shoes, and your unwavering commitment to justice!
Together, we can push back against these harmful decisions and ensure a future where all youth, including trans and gender nonconforming youth, have the support and care they deserve. See you there!
?️ What is U.S. v. Skrmetti? A lawsuit filed by @ACLU, @LambdaLegal, @ACLU of Tennessee and Akin Gump on behalf of transgender youth and their families challenging Tennessee’s categorical ban (SB1) on gender-affirming medical care for transgender youth.
?️⚧️ Why does it matter? This case is about the constitutionality of states banning access to critical medical care for trans minors, particularly gender-affirming care. This could have nationwide impact on access to care, trans rights, and other sex-based discrimination by the government.
